What price level is best for a monthly computer maintenence service?
I want to offer a service to maintain PC users computers. This is a proactive method, ensure things like Anti-virus, anti-spyware is running properly, security updates complete. Most work done remotely by logging in through the client modem/router to the PC. Current client has 5 children, and wants their activity monitored, parents are not computer literate. I have the methods, the skills, and the tools to check all activities and security components on today's PC's. Will people pay $19.95/month for me to ensure the computer stays running (longer) than it would without the service? Not guaranteed if they do certain "bad" things..", disable anti-virus, use lots of file sharing (viruses..), etc. Alerts on the above. Would also offer a discount on services, like upgrades, free email support, install new software, trip charge, recommendations, hardware replace - all discounted deeply with plan. What do you think? Is there a set of services and a price level that will sell > $10/mo.

- in all actualality, you'd have to charge more because if you are providing all the software and you're responsible for making sure nothing goes wrong, then it will cost more for the software. if they use their own software and you keep up their system and something goes wrong, then you are liably for any repairs or such.
- $19.95 is not enough! "GEEK" squads charge a lot more than that, and from the results I've seen--they were really overpaid! $40.00 for just showing up is a deal! Charge $40.00 for showup and the first hour. That's half of what others charge. Don't you think your service is worth that? If you're goooooood, then it is very worth it! Don't screw yourself cause you're a nice person. Give them a good deal but don't under sell yourself!!
- I would try out maybe 10-15 a month and see how that goes and adjust accordingly.
- When I do freelance work I charge $40 per hour for housecalls and people pay it with a smile on their face because they know most tech shops are twice that. I don't have anybody on a monthly retainer though...I just do it when they call me.
